Baltisphaeridium mutabile
Baltisphaeridium mutabile, (Sannemann, 1955), Downie and Sarjeant, 1965
Now Multiplicisphaeridium (an acritarch genus). Originally Hystrichosphaeridium, subsequently Baltisphaeridium, thirdly (and now) Multiplicisphaeridium (an acritarch genus). The combinations Baltisphaeridium mutabile (Naumova, 1950) Downie and Sarjeant, 1965 and Baltisphaeridium mutabile (Sannemann 1955) Downie and Sarjeant, 1965 were both validly published in the same publication (Downie and Sarjeant, 1965). As homonyms, one of these combinations must be considered illegitimate- Fensome et al., 1990 chose Baltisphaeridium mutabile (Naumova, 1950) Downie and Sarjeant, 1965 as the illegitimate combination. Baltisphaeridium mutabile (Sannemann, 1955) Downie and Sarjeant, 1965 is thus legitimate. This combination was not validly published in Downie and Sarjeant, 1963 since these authors did not fully reference the basionym.
Holotype: Sannemann, 1955, pl.5, fig.5
Age: Devonian (Late Givetian)
