Meiourogonyaulax stoveri

Meiourogonyaulax stoveri Millioud, 1969

Originally (and now) Meiourogonyaulax, subsequently Lithodinia. This species is here retained in Meiourogonyaulax following the retention of the genus by Riding and Helby (2001d, p.81,83).
Possible tax. jr. synonym of Meiourogonyaulax bulloidea (Cookson and Eisenack, 1960) Sarjeant, 1969, according to Backhouse, 1988. Lentin and Williams, 1989, retained Meiourogonyaulax stoveri as a separate species.
Gocht, 1976, transferred this species to Lithodinia Eisenack, 1935. Stover and Evitt, 1978, retained it in Meiourogonyaulax.
Williams et al., 1993, agreed with Gocht, 1976.

Holotype: Millioud, 1969, pl.3, fig.1-2
Locus typicus: Angles, SE-France
Stratum typicum: Hauterivian-Aptian

Original description: Millioud 1969, p. 429.
A Meiourogonyaulax having an ellipsoidal, somewhat subangular outline; lacking apex (apical archaeopyle) in most specimens seen. Tabulation 4", 0a, 6"", probably 6c, 5""", 1p, 1"""". Crests vacuolar with smooth distal ledges, generally low, but higher along the sides of the antapical plate. Wall vacuolar, relatively thick.
Dimensions: Holotype: overall legth 78 Ám, breadth 72 Ám, width of cingulum 5 Ám. In other specimens the length varies from 75 to 84 Ám, the breadth from 64 to 82 Ám. Comments: This form is well characterized by its apical archaeopyle, its broadly oval shape, the absence of an apical horn, the low smooth crests and the thick vacuolar wall. The cingulum is strongly helicoidal, its extremities being displaced more than 2 girdle widths.
