Veryhachium lairdii
Veryhachium lairdii Deflandre, 1946 ex Loeblich Jr., 1970
Tax. jr. synonym of the acritarch species Veryhachium valiente Cramer, 1964, according to Martin, 1969 and Turner, 1984, both of whom believed Veryhachium
lairdii to be the senior name. Turner, 1984 considered both the acritarch species Veryhachium valiente and the acritarch species Veryhachium bromidense Loeblich Jr., 1970 to be tax. jr. synonyms of Veryhachium lairdii. Hystrichosphaeridium lairdii was a nomen nudum in Deflandre, 1946 and Deunff, 1954. Deunff, 1959 provided a description but did not designate a holotype, a requirement fulfilled by Loeblich Jr., 1970.
Holotype: Deunff, 1959, pl.8, fig.75; designated by Loeblich Jr., 1970. See also Hystrichosphaeridium (combination not validly published)
Age: Middle Silurian
