Stratum typicum: Late Thithonian-?earliest Valanginian

Original description: Backhouse, 1988, p.105
Medium to small subspherical cysts.
Wall: Autophragm less than 0.5 µm thick, usually irregularly folded, bearing numerous fine evenly spaced punctae.
Paratabulation: indicated only by archeopyle.
Paracingulum and parasulcus not indicated.
Archeopyle: apical, type [tA], operculum free. Primary archeopyle suture and deep gaping acccssory sutures delimit 5 precingular paraplates, configuration as for P. charlottensis.
Sulcal notch modcrately deep, 1 to 3 µm wide.
Operculum: probably composed of 4 fused paraplates.

Dimensions:
Length of holotype without operculum 46 µm, width 58 mµ. Range of length without operculum (39 specimens) 38(47)55 µm, width 48(58)64 µm.

Affinities:
Backhouse, 1988, p.105: Pentafidia punctata is distinguished from P. charlottensis by its thin punctate autophragm, more spherical shape? and gaping accessory sutures.
