Hystrichosphaera rubina (Ross.) comb.nov.
1962 Hystrichosphaeridium rubinum Rossignol, p. 134

Diagnosis: Hystrichosphaera with an ovoid test; tabulation weakly apparent. Processes like large flat discontinuous veils situated at the corners and along the margins of the plates. Archaeopyle middorsal precingular.
Description: The test wall is double, like in all Hystrichosphaeres. The processes are formed by an enhancement of the external test wall at the corners and along the plates as if it would have been pinched and streched; each veil has a double wall, of which the the two sheets are closely appressed. It is difficult to distinguish if the sheets are continuous at the distal edge of the veil, or if they are interrupted by a split; however, the latter seems to be the case. At the plate corners, the traditional place of the processes, the veils are cylindrical, and open at the end. The cingular processes are tubular, more slender, and the classical trifurcation is sometimes present. Species quite rare.
Dimensions: test 52x44 µm, veils 15-20 µm high.
