Canningia insignis
Canningia insignis, He Chengquan, 1991, p.55-56, pl.9, figs.9-10.
Holotype: He Chengquan, 1991, pl.9, fig.9.
Age: Cenomanian.
Holotype: He Chengquan, 1991, pl.9, fig.9
Location and stratigraphy: Ulugquat County Basebulak, mid kukebai fm.
Age: Cenomanian
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original description: [He Chengquan, 1991]: (translated by Suning Hou, 07-01-2019):
Description:
The cyst flat, outline pentagonal, length larger than width, widest at the equator. Upper cyst conical, side straight, top slightly convex, lack of apical horn, the lower cyst nearly trapezoidal, more or less recessed on the bottom edge, the deepest depression of 6 μm, two antapical horns usually conspicuous, equal or not equal in size.
Cyst surface with granulate or short rod-shaped process.
Processes solid, straight or curved, variable in length, up to about 3 μm, usually developed well at margin of cyst, somewhat degenerated at the mid-ventral and dorsal side but lacking in a circumferential ornamentation boundary as in Cyclonephelium.
No sulcus or cingulum, but the equatorial zone with 1-2 horizontal grooves.
Apical archeopyle. Operculum separated, preserved in situ or lost.
Dimensions:
Cyst total length 55-67.5μm, total width 55 -57.5μm, tail length 3-10μm (measured 4 time); Holotype total length 67. 5μm, total width 57 .5μm, antapical horns length 8-10μm.
Affinities/Comparison:
The new species is similar to Canningia hirtella (Alberti), but the former has a smaller cyst and the upper cyst is straight without convex and lack of obvious apical horn; this new species differs from C. colliveri in smaller individual, longer processes.
