Original description Slimani, 1994 (translation PKB 2025):
Name derivation: Latin: tubus, tube; reference to the tubular antapical process.

Holotype: Turnhout -775.01 m, preparation 1, coord. E.F. F40/1.

Type locality: Turnhout -775.01 m. Type horizon: Maastrichtian.

Diagnosis: Flandrecysta cyst whose hypocyst is characterized by the presence of a single, long, prominent, tubular, and distally digitate antapical process. On the remainder of the cyst, spines or short, apparently gonal, often curved processes are found mainly on the ventral margin of the epipericyst.

Dimensions: Holotype: endocyst, length: 36 µm, width: 38 µm; pericyst, length: 40 µm, width: 64 µm. Variations: endocyst, length: 32-40 µm, width: 30(33)40 µm; pericyst, length: 40-60 µm, width: 54-64 µm. Antapical process length: 18-26 µm. Ventral opening diameter: about 40 µm. Number of specimens measured: 15.
Material: > 20 specimens.

Description: The smooth endocyst is ovoidal to spheroidal and projects an apical bump. The pericyst has a hemicircular and slightly angular outline. The periphragm is smooth to slightly scabrous. The antapical process is tubular, hollow, closed proximally and distally, and terminates in a digitate tip, often more prolonged towards the ventral side. The archaeopyle is precingulate of type P(3"), the operculum is free. Paratabulation is indicated by the archaeopyle and by low parasutural ridges or lines on the epicyst. There are 4 apical paraplates and 6 precingulate paraplates; the unsegmented paracingulum is indicated by two parallel ridges that terminate in spines on the edge of the ventral margin of the pericyst. On the dorsal surface where the periphragm and endophragm are in contact, part of the anterior ridge of the paracingulum is often absent. The parasulcus is almost occupied by the ventral opening of the periphragm.

Comparison: Flandrecysta tubulosa sp. nov. bears many resemblances to Flandrecysta inflata (HEILMANN-CLAUSEN in THOMSEN and HEILMANN-CLAUSEN, 1985) comb. nov.; it differs only in the presence of a long antapical process. Flandrecysta furcata often has four long postcingulate processes and also long dorsal paracingulate processes.
Stratigraphic distribution: Turnhout: -850.72 to -722.40 m, late Maastrichtian lower - Danian.
