Original description (Kirsch, 1993) Not yet translated from German
Named in honor of Professor Dr. Herbert Hagn.

Holotype: Specimen 559.1(EF:P50). Paratype: Specimen 559.1(EF:Q50/1).

Typical location: Waxenstein Graben, Upper Bavaria, Germany.
Typical strata: Drusberg Beds, Barrem. Description: Mostly dorsoventrally flattened cyst without signs of surface areation. Cyst habit proximal, bicavate to mostly circumcavate. Habit elongated ovaloidal. The epiperiblast is elongated conical with straight to slightly concave, inwardly curved sides. The hypoperiblast is rounded trapezoidal with at least one distinct, short antapical process. The periblast is subdivided by the clearly developed cingulum into a somewhat larger epiperiblast and a smaller hypoperiblast. The endoblast is predominantly subspheroidal to ovaloidal and psilate. A pericoel is present both apically and antapically. The periblast is psilate to weakly granulated. An archaeopyle is absent.

Note: Characteristic individuals exhibit an elongated, conical periblast that is strongly broadened at the base. Subtilisphaera hagnii n. sp. is easily distinguished from other Subtilisphaera species based on its habit. Subtilisphaera cheit BELOW, 1981, although having a long oval habit, displays a sphaeroidal endoblast and thin appendages on the cyst surface. Subtilisphaera senegalensis JAIN & MILLEPIED; 1973 is characterized by a sphaeroidal habit with short apical/antapical processes. In contrast to Subtilisphaera hagnii n. sp., Subtilisphaera zawia BELOW, 1981 exhibits a pentagonal habit. A "shoulder" formed on the epicyst, as seen in *Subtilisphaera pirnaensis*, is also absent. Similarities in habitus and the relatively large apical periblast exist with *Subtilisphaera scabrata* Jain & Millepied, 1973. However, according to Jain & Millepied (1973), the latter is clearly distinguished by a granuloscabrate luxuria and its size. *Subtilisphaera scabrata* Jain & Millepied, 1973 is considerably smaller.

Dimensions: Holotype: Periblast: 80 x 52 μm, Endoblast: 50 x 46 μm. Variation: Periblast: L: 78–82 μm, W: 44–56 μm. Endoblast: 40–48 x 38–42 μm. Specimens: approx. 40.

Location: Waxenstein Graben, Upper Bavaria (Drusberg Beds).

Age: Barremian.
