Fromea thomsenii
From Fensome et al., 2019:
Fromea thomsenii Poulsen, 1996, p.88, pl.42, figs.6–9. Holotype: Poulsen, 1996, pl.42, fig.7. Age: middle Volgian.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fromea thomsenii sp. nov.
Description: Ovoidal to spherical body with a thin, smooth wall. The pylome comprises a cyclopyle. Operculum one round piece, free. The surface is sculptured by two rows of broad, flat granulae. Each row circumscribes the cyst at a plane oriented more or less perpendicular to a line through the body from the cyclopyle.
Dimensions. 42-(49)-58 µm in diameter (30 specimens measured). holotype 46 µm in diameter, cyclopyle about 8 µm. Granulae about 2 µm in width, 0.5 µm in height.
Comparison. Fromea thomsenii differs from other species of Fromea by having two rows of granulae each circumscribing the body.
Recorded occurrence. Scythicus Zone, Zarajskensis Subzone (Middle Volgian), Poland, where it occurs it beds with Pinna bivalves. As other species of Fromea, it is indicative of turbulent waters (Fenton, in: Poulsen, 1992).
