Acritarch genus.

Poulsen 1996, p. 88-89, Pl. 45, Figs. 3-4
Schizocystia lundii sp. nov.
Schizocystia cf. rara of Lund, 1977, p. 77, pl. 10, fig. 7, pl. 10, fig. 5.

Derivation of name. Schizocystia lundii is named after Dr. Jens J0rgen Lund (Rheinisches Westphallische Elektrisitatswerk - Deutsche Erdol Aktiengesellschaft (RWE-DEA AG), Wietze, Germany).
Diagnosis. Compressed form with shape varying from quadrangular, almost square, to hour-glass shaped. Two of the sides are almost straight and parallel, and the other two are gently to strongly convex. The wall is thin, and smooth, shagreenate or scabrate, and often slightly folded. The median split divides the body into two almost equal halves. The split is perpendicular to the two almost straight, parallel sides.
Dimensions. Length 46-56 µm, width 43-56 µm, "waist" 28-45 ~µm. Wall 0.5 - 1.0 µm.
23 specimens measured.
Holotype: length 46 µm, width 46 µm, "waist" 29 µm.
Comparison. Schizocystia lundii differs from Schizocystia rugosa Cookson and Eisenack 1962 and Schizocystia rare Playford 1965 in having a thinner wall. Schizocystia rare Playford 1965 possesses a continuous groove in place of the median split.
Recorded occurrences. Rhaetian to Toarcian of nearshore marine to fluviatile or lacustrine deposits (Fjerritslev-1 at 696 m, Flyvbjerg-1 at 1116 m, Haldager-1 at 3945-4982 ft., Lav0-1 at 2299-2301 m, R0dby-1 boreholes Skagen-2 at 1616-1810 ft., and Sound-18 at l9m).
Holotype. Pl. 45, Fig. 4; DGU catalogue no.: 1991-NEP-18; from Skagen-2 borehole at 1615
32 ft., Fjerritslev Formation, Middle-Late Toarcian.
