Gongylodinium pauliae

Gongylodinium "pauliae" Heilmann-Clausen in Heilmann-Clausen and Thomsen, 1995, p.294-295, pl.5, figs.7-10,13; text-fig.14. NOW Dissiliodinium. Originally Gongylodinium, subsequently (and now) Dissiliodinium.

Holotype: Heilmann-Clausen and Thomsen 1995: Pl. 5, fig. 13; Text-fig. 14
Paratype 1: Heilmann-Clausen and Thomsen 1995: Pl. 5, fig. 7
Paratype 2: Heilmann-Clausen and Thomsen 1995: Pl. 5, fig. 10 (Ahlum 1, core)
Type locality: Gott clay pit, Sarstedt, Lower Saxony, Germany.
Type stratum: Sample 88/7, bed 126, Upper Barremian.

Diagnosis: Heilmann-Clausen and Thomsen 1995, p. 294-295
Proximate, sphaeroidal, thinwalled dinoflagellate cyst, occasionally with a low apical boss. The cyst-surface is densely covered with very short spines, usually approximately 1Ám in length, but varying between 0.5µm and 2µm; varying in length within a single .specimen. The spines are usually capitate, but may also be acuminate. The arrangement of the spines is non-tabular. The archaeopyle is precingular, type 2P.

Dimensions o f holotype: Central body length 47µm, breadth 53µm.
Dimensions of measured specimens: Central body diameter: 43 (52) 59µm (6 specimens measured).

Comparison: Gongylodinium pauliae differs from G. erymnoteichos FENTON et al., 1980 by the thin wall and from G. hochneratum FENTON et al., 1980 by the spinose ornament. The operculum was lost in all specimens seen. The archaeopyle much resembles that of Exiguisphaera phragma and therefore probably involves paraplates 3" and 4".
