Protobatioladinium rossicum

Protobatioladinium rossicum (Iosifova, 1992) Iosifova 1996

Originally Batioladinium, subsequently (and now) Protobatioladinium.

Holotype: Iosifova, 1992, pl. IX, 2; pl. X, 1; Iosifova 1996: Plate VII, 4a-c; Fig. 10
Isotype: Iosifova 1996: Plate X, 4a,b; Fig. 10c
Locus typicus: Chernaya Retchka outcrop, upper part of Ryazan horizon, the Ryazan district, Russia.
Stratum typicum: the Ryazanian, R. riasanensis ammonite zone, E. pharo dinocyst subzone.

Diagnosis: Iosifova 1996, p. 227, 229
A species of Protobatioladinium with a very small conical apical horn and smooth or granular periphragm.

Dimensions: Length: holotype: 52µm, isotype: 44µm, range: 42-52µm; width: holotype: 31µm, isotype: 27µm, range: 27-31µm. Five specimens measured.

Emended description: Iosifova 1996, p. 227, 229
Cysts small, slightly elongate, with one apical and two antapical horns. Apical horn is small, blunt, and protrudes only slightly, so that the apex is conical. Antapical horns are very small, blunt. The left antapical horn may be larger than the right one. Wall two-layered, periphragm and endophragm are in contact everywhere. Periphragm smooth to granular. Paratabulation indicated only by archeopyle suture. Archeopyle compound, Type [tA + 2I ], with deep parasulcal notch.

Remarks: Only one specimen that has a distinct compound archeopyle has been found (holotype, Plate VII, 4a-c; Fig. 11 ). I interpret its archeopyle as [tA+2I] in which paraplate la is lost.

Comparison: It differs from Protobatioladinium westburiensis N÷hr-Hansen, 1986 by its distinctly shorter apical horn and more elongate body shape and from P. Iunare Monteil, 1992a by its smooth to granular periphragm.

Occurrence: Tchernaya Retchka outcrop, the Ryazanian, R. riasanensis ammonite zone, E. pharo dinocyst subzone.
