Luehndea microreticulata

Luehndea microreticulata Bucefalo Palliani et al. 1997b

Holotype: Bucefalo Palliani et al. 1997b: Plate II, 4
Type locality: Reka Valley section, sample Reka 3; 8 m from the base, southern Hungary.
Stratigraphic horizon: Lower Toarcian (D. tenuicostatum Zone).

Diagnosis: Bucefalo Palliani et al. 1997b, p. 117, 119
A species of Luehndea with hollow or solid, straight or sinuous, gonal spines and a microreticulate autophragm.

Description: Bucefalo Palliani et al. 1997b, p. 117, 119
Ellipsoidal, proximochorate to chorate dinoflagellate cysts, central body subovoidal in dorsoventral outline. Autophragm exhibits a well-developed microreticulum. Paratabulation is expressed by smooth parasutural ridges of low to high relief. Locally parasutures may be absent. Heteromorphic processes are located in gonal positions. They are hollow or solid, generally conical, occasionally acicular, straight, sinuous and distally acuminate. The paracingulum is delimited by low, transverse, parallel parasutural ridges. The operculum is commonly attached ventrally, but may be free.

Dimensions:
Holotype: Length 36Ám, width 34Ám, processes 15Ám (mean value).
Overall cyst length: 36Ám (mean value). Overall cyst width: 34Ám (mean value); processes 15Ám (mean value); cingulum 7Ám (mean value) (2 specimens measured).

Remarks: Bucefalo Palliani et al. 1997b, p. 117, 119
Luehndea microreticulata is distinct from other forms of Luehndea in possessing a microreticulate autophragm. Moreover, this species differs from L. spinosa and L. cirilliae by the presence of heteromorphic processes.
