Prolixosphaeridium foratum
Prolixosphaeridium ? foratum Dodekova 1994
Holotype: Dodekova 1994, pl. V, figs. 3,4
Locus typicus: Borehole R-3 Devetaki, depth 2546-2548 m, Central North Bulgaria.
Stratum typicum: Kaspican Fm., Late Thithonian
Dimensions (in µm). Holotype: length of the body (apex lacking) 75, breadth of the body: 38, length of processes: 9. Range: length--60-79, breadth: 30-38, processes: 8-13 (8 specimens measured)
Description: Dodekova 1994, p. 26-27
Cyst elongate ellipsoidal with nontabular slender, curved processes. Processes open proximally, acuminate, closed distally. The autophragm with scabrate surface. Tabulation indicated by archeopyle only. The latter is apical type tA. Operculum free. All observed specimens posses an archeopyle.
Remarks. Dodekova 1994, p. 26-27
P? foratum sp. n. with its open proximally processes contradicts with the generic diagnosis of the genus Prolixosphaeridium (Davey et al., 1966, p. 171) where categorically is noted that the processes are closed proximally. In the revised diagnosis of Davey (1969a, p. 160) and Stover & Evitt (1978, p. 77) this feature is not mentioned. P?foratum sp. n. has similar morphology and dimensions to P. parvispinum (Deflandre, 1937b) as was described by Cookson & Eisenack (1958, p. 45). But the former has longer and slender curved processes while P. parvispinum has short strong ones. The surface of the autophragm of the new species is rather scabrate than granulate as in P. parvispinum.
Occurrence. Boreholes: R-3 Devetaki (depth 2546-2548 m, Kaspican Fm., Late Tithonian); R-11 Zitllica (depth 1713.8 m, Tica Fm., Late Tithonian-Berriasian, Calpionella Zone, C. alpina Subzone); R-7 Sultanci (depth 1707-1742 m, Tica Fm., late Tithonian, Crossicollaria Zone); R-1 Junak (depth 1495 m, Tica Fm., Late Tithonian, Crassicollaria Zone).
