Diagnosis:
A species of Chatangiella possessing paratabulation indicated by penitabular alignment of spines. Spines are simple, evexate to capitate, and conspicuous at the ambitus of the paracingulum.

Description:
Medium-sized peridinioid cyst with one apical and two antapical horns, the right of which is shorter than that on the left (in archaeopyle view). Below the apical horn the epicystal ambitus is convex with weakly to moderately well-developed shoulders. From the antapical horns to below the paracingulum, the hypocystal ambitus is concave to occasionally straight.
The endocyst is oval and approximates the morphology of the pericyst, is generally longer than wide and thicker than the pericyst and is in contact with the pericyst in the paracingular region. The apical horn is short and blunt; the left antapical horn protrudes into the antapical pericoel, the right horn is reduced.
The pericyst possesses a paratabulation indicated by the penitabular arrangement of spines that are generally 2-4 µm in length, simple, evexate to capitate. Spines are longest when adjacent to the pentapartite paracingulum and are conspicuously long at the ambitus of the paracingulum. Spines may also be randomly orientated across the pericyst.
Intercalary peri-archaeopyle, type 2a, ?iso-thetaform linteloid?, the endo-archaeopyle has not been determined.

Remarks/affinities:
Prince (1997) recorded a species identical to Chatangiella spinosum sp. nov. (Pearce, 2000) with prominent indications of paratabulation from the arrangement of cone-like projections, as Arvalidinium "spinosum". Arvalidinium was created (Lentin & Vozzhennikova, 1990) to accommodate cysts resembling Chatangiella that possess indications of paratabulation delineated by parasutural features. In the description of Arvalidinium "spinosum" Prince (1997) described the paratabulation to be indicated by a penitabular alignment of spines, and he did not note any parasutural features. Therefore the cyst morphology is attributable to Chatangiella.
