Original description: [Zevenboom, 1995]:

Diagnosis:
A relatively small, subspherical species of Cerebrocysta characterized by a delicate reticulum with small lumina.

Description:
A relatively small species of Cerebrocysta with a delicate reticulum of low relief with small lumina. The lumina are irregularly rectangular in shape, approx. 5 µm wide and 5 to 10 µm long.
The wall is faintly microgranulate.
The archaeopyle is formed by the loss of paraplate 3", the operculum is free.

Dimensions:
Height: 40(49)50 µm; width: 40(49)50 µm, Height of crests: 1,5-2 µm; Wall thickness: 1 µm. N=15.

Affinities/Discussion:
Cerebrocysta cassinascoensis differs from the morphologically similar Cerebrocysta powellii Zevenboom and Santarelli, 1995 by its smaller size and larger lumina, which in contrast to C. powellii are mostly rectangular in shape. The new species differs from Cerebrocysta magna Bujak, 1994, mainly in the shape of the lumina, which are wider and more elongate in C. cassinascoensis, and its smaller size.
