Type locality: Giammoia section, Sicily, Italy.
Type stratum: Giammoia Formation.
Occurences: Italy (this study, and Powell, 1986c) and the North Atlantic (Engel, 1992).
Total stratigraphical range: Serravallian through lower Tortonian (this study).
Age: Serravallian-early Tortonian.

Diagnosis:
A species of Cerebrocysta with irregular, broad, perforated crests forming the reticulum.

Description:
A species of Cerebrocysta characterized by irregular, broad, perforated crests forming the reticulum.
Traces of paratabulation are indicated by the paracingulum and the 1P (3") archaeopyle. The operculum is free. The archaeopyle margin is serrate and free of crests.
The crests are generally fairly wide (2-5 µm) and form irregularly shaped lumina. Furthermore, they are broad, spongy and perforated.

Dimensions:
Height: 60 (69) 85 µm; Width: 50 (580 60 µm; Height of crests 3,5 (4) 4,5 µm, Wall thickness 1-1.5 µm. N=20.

Affinities/Discussion:
Cerebrocysta perforocresta differs from all other species of Cerebrocysta in the perforated and irregularly shaped, spongy crests.
