Rottnestia granulata
Rottnestia granulata Hultberg, 1985
Holotype Hultberg, 1985, pl.9, fig.j
Locus typicus: Limhamn area, S Sweden
Stratum typicum: Maastrichtian-Danian
Original description: Hultberg, 1985, p. 143-144
Bicavate cyst, composed of endophragm and periphragm, separated by apical and antapical pericoels. The surface of both endophragm and periphragm is distinctly granulate. The shape of the endophragm is spherical. The shape of the periphragm is rectangular, with a short apical horn. Paratabulation is expressed by parasutural folds in the periphragm and well-developed gonal processes. The processes are granulate, triangular in cross-section, and trifurcate. The furcae are bifid. The paratabulation is gonyaulacacean, paratabulation formula: 1pr, 4", 6", 6c, 1p, 6""", 1"""". Paraplate 1""" is very small, and almost completely incorporated into the parasulcus. The archeopyle is precingular, type P, formed by the detachment of paraplate 3". Operculum free. Paracingulum is indicated by gonal processes and folds in the periphragm. Paracingulum is distinctly laevorotatory. Parasulcus is indicated by folds in the periphragm. Size - 55-62 µm (length), 45-52 µm (breadth).
Affinities:
Hultberg, 1985, p. 144: Rottnestia granulata can be distinguished from R. borussica by its distinctly rectangular shape and the distinct granulation of periphragm and processes.
