Cometodinium multispinosum
Cometodinium multispinosum, (Singh, 1964, p.141, pl.20, figs.1-2), Masure in Fauconnier and Masure, 2004, p.133.
Originally Baltisphaeridium (Appendix A), subsequently Cleistosphaeridium, thirdly Cleistosphaeridium?, fourthly Downiesphaeridium, fifthly (and now) Cometodinium.
Holotype: Singh, 1964, pl.20, fig.1; Fauconnier and Masure, 2004, pl.23, fig.10.
Type locality: Imperial Willingdon No.1 well.
Distribution: Middle Albanian; Abundant in the Clearwater Formation, rare in the Grand Rapids Formation.
Age: Mid Albian-Early Cenomanian.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original description as Baltisphaeridium multispinosum: [Singh, 1964, p. 141-142]:
Description:
Vesicle circular, thin-walled; length of processes about ¼ of the diameter of the body, unbranched, thin, tapering and closed at the outer end, broadening slightly towards the base; vesicle densely covered with processes distributed all over the surface, some processes bifurcating at the tips.
Dimensions:
Size range: Total diameter of the specimens 62-74 µm, holotype 62 µm. Diameter of the vesicle 40-50 µm, holotype 41 µm. Length of processes 10-15 µm. Width of the processes 0.5-1 µm, holotype 1 µm.
