Daveya solaris

Daveya solaris (Davey, 1988, p.38, pl.4, figs.7-9) Davey, 1999, p.20. Holotype: Davey, 1988, pl.4, figs.7-9; Fensome et al., 1996, figs.1-3 - p.2367. Originally Gonyaulacysta, subsequently (and now) Daveya. N.I.A. Age: Late Berriasian.

Original diagnosis: Davey, 1988, p. 38
Shape: Spherical to subspherical without obvious protrusions.
Wall: Of moderate thickness, rarely deformed and apparently composed of two layers, a thicker endophragm and a fine periphragm which forms the crests and apical horn. Intratabular areas scabrate and bearing granules and small spines.
Wall features: The sutural crests are relatively low, being slightly higher in the gonal regions, and more or less smooth distally, with rare spines. They are delicate and often appear to be longitudinally striate. The apical horn, formed only from the periphragm, is of low to moderate height and of rounded, subconical shape.
Paratabulation: The sutural crests indicate a gonyaulacacean formula of 3"-4", 6", 5-6c, 5-6";1"""". Cingulum moderately helicoid.
Archaeopyle: Precingular, Type P (3" only); operculum sometimes remaining attached.
Size: Small to moderate.

Dimensions
Body length (without crests) 38-44 µm
Body width (without crests) 37-41 µm
Maximum height of crests 3-5 µm
Apical horn 2-7 µm

Original description: Davey, 1988, p.38
There is a tendency, noted in one specimen, for the crests to become cavate in the gonal and sutural regions particularly on the hypotract.

Affinities:
Davey, 1988, p. 38: The characteristic, small, almost spherical body and ornamented wall differentiates Gonyaulacysta solara from all previously described species. The most similar lineage is that of C. helicoidea (Eisenack & Cookson, 1960) -to which G. solara is probably related. Conyaulacysta helicoidea differs in being ellipsoidal, having basically a smooth wall with tubercles and possessing spiny crests.
