Deflandrea phosphoritica var. spinulosa

Deflandrea phosphoritica var. spinulosa (Alberti, 1959b, p.95, pl.8, figs.8-9) Strauss in Pross, 1997, p.118.

Originally Deflandrea spinulosa, subsequently (and now) Deflandrea phosphoritica var. spinulosa. Pross (1997, p.118) attributed this combination to an unpublished thesis by Strauss.

Holotype: Alberti, 1959b, pl.8, fig.8.
Locus typicus: Borehole Golzow, SW of Potsdam, Germany
Age: mid-late Oligocene.

Original description: Alberti, 1959, p. 95
Diagnosis: Shell flattened, in outline elongate pentagonal, the sides sometimes slightly convex. Epitheca slightly overtopping the inner body, streched into a strongly tapering apical horn. The "angular" antapical horns slightly unequally long, standing more or less away from the hypotheca and tapering. Transverse band slightly below the equator, dorsally and on the sides of the ventral part. Longitudinal furrow broad, slightly deepened, only onthe hypotheca. Lateral horns merely indicated, distally indented. Shell set with small, peg-like thorns (small hairs), which stand especially close to the margins of the transverse and longitudinal bands. The thick-walled capsule occupies the main part of the volume of the outer shell.
Dimensions: Holotype: length 104 Ám, width 68 Ám. In the other specimens, the length varies from 94 to 148 Ám, the width from 68 to 99 Ám.

Affinities:
Alberti, 1959, p. 95
D. spinulosa differs from the other species of the genus in the epitheca slightly overtopping exceptionally large inner body (to which the outer shell appresses closely), the "angular" antapical horns and the shell bearing thorns.
