Original description: [Morgenroth, 1968] (translated from German):

Derivatio nominis: novissimum Latin: The youngest, chronologically latest.
Holotype: The specimen preserved in prep. KG30 and shown on Pl. 43, Fig. 4
Paratypoids: KG24, KC27, KG29, KG30.
Locus typicus: Kjölby Gaard, Hunstrup NW Thisted (Denmark).
Stratum typicum: Denmark A.

Diagnosis: A small-sized species of the subgenus Scriniodinium. The smooth, dorsoventrally slightly flattened inner capsule has a rounded, diamond-shaped outline. Simply pointed at the apex, it is often extended into two unequally pronounced lobes at the antapex. However, the inner capsule can also be rounded at the apical pole. The capsule is surrounded at a considerable distance by a smooth, delicate outer shell, which is usually extended into a relatively long horn at the apex, but into two unequally long horns at the antapex. The apical horn can be greatly reduced, and the antapical horns can be completely absent.
A transverse furrow cannot be detected in the present specimens. The longitudinal furrow is indicated by two parallel ridges on the ventral side of the hypotheca. The horseshoe-shaped archeopyle lies below the apical pole.

Dimensions:
Capsule length: 34 μ (31 μ/39 μ)
Capsule width: 32 μ (28 μ/36 μ)
Specimen length: 44 μ (39 μ/50 μ)
Specimen width: 37 μ (31 μ/43 μ) (50 measurements)
Number of specimens examined: 56

Comparisons: The new species differs from Scriniodinium attadalense (COOKSON & EISENACK), Scriniodinium scutellum EISENACK, and Scriniodinium curypylum MANUM & COOKSON by its significantly smaller dimensions and the absence of a distinct transverse furrow.

Supplemental description: Hultberg, 1985, p. 144-145
Cavate cyst, composed of endophragm and periphragm, mostly separated by an irregular pericoel. The surface of endophragm and periphragm is smooth. The shape of the endophragm is rounded rhomboidal with very slight apical an1 antapical protrusions. The shape of the periphragm is rounded rhomboidal. The periphragm is very dark in color. There is no trace of paratabulation, except archeopyle. The archeopyle is precingular, type P, formed by the detachment of paraplate 3". Operculum free. Paracingulum is indicated by folds in the endophragm and periphragm. Parasulcus is indicated by a slight depression on the midventral surface.
Size - 42-54 µm (length), 27-35 µm (breadth).
