Exochosphaeridium granulosum
Exochosphaeridium granulosum (Jain and Tandon, 1981, p.11, pl.2, figs.30-31; pl.3, fig.50) Masure in Fauconnier and Masure, 2004, p.345. Holotype: Jain and Tandon, 1981, pl.2, fig.30. Originally Impletosphaeridium, subsequently (and now) Exochosphaeridium. Age: Mid Eocene.
Original description Jain and Tandon, 1981
Diagnosis: Cyst body spherical, surface granular, covered with numerous erect, simple or branched, solid processes; process stem striate, fenestrate, distal termination recurved or serrate or bifid. Archaeopyle precingular, triangular.
Measurements: Holotype (Range)
Diameter of central body 72 µm (66-72µm)
Length of processes up to 14µm (12-16µm)
Comparison: Impletosphaeridium granulosum sp. nov. differs from the known species of the genus in its large size and granular surface.
Locality: Baranda, S-!. kachchh, India.
Horizon: Middle Eocene
Remarks: Except for capitate distal termination of the processes rest of the features are similar to I. insolitum Eaton (1976, p. 308). Eaton's species is known from the Middle Eocene of Isle of Wight, England.
