Glaphyrocysta castelcasiensis ssp. prominenta
From Fensome et al., 2019:
Glaphyrocysta castelcasiensis subsp. prominenta (Marheinecke, 1992, p.73–74, pl.15, figs.1–4) Michoux and Soncini in Fauconnier and Masure, 2004, p.245. Holotype: Marheinecke, 1992, pl.15, figs.1–4; Fauconnier and Masure, 2004, pl.30, figs.8–10. Originally Cyclonephelium? castelcasiense subsp. prominentum, subsequently (and now) Glaphyrocysta castelcasiensis subsp. prominenta. Age: late Maastrichtian.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original description: [Marheinecke, 1992] (translated from German):
?Cyclonephelium castelcasiense ssp. prominentum n. ssp.
Derivatio nominis: Prominere (Latin) to protrude. According to the striking overall appearance of the form.
Holotype: The specimen shown on Plate 15, Figs. 1-4 from the preparation VF949.2 at 19.8/155.3.
Locus typicus: Former Hemmoor chalk pit (Lower Saxony). Stratum typicalum: Upper Upper Maastrichtian (Baltica/Danica zone), flint.
Description: Cyst habitus marginate, lenticulate. Cyst habit subspheroidal to ovaloidal. The antapex shows an asymmetrical outgrowth like a short, blunt horn. The wall consists of pedium and luxuria. The luxuria forms a distinct granulation, which is intraareate on the dorsal side, surrounded by peniareate zones of absent or greatly reduced granulation. On the ventral side, only uniform granulation is recognizable. Laterally and antapically, the luxuria consists of a large number of slender, massive processes, the length of which can reach half the width of the cyst. Distally, the processes merge into a granulated membrane that completely spans the process-bearing areas of the cyst.
Areation: Only indicated by the archeopyl and the intraareate granulation of the dorsal side.
Archeopyle: Apically probably 1'+2'+3'+4'. Operculum secat, foederat.
Remarks: Whether the membrane is granulate or perhaps foveolate could not be determined under the LM with certainty. The shape of the operculum is uncertain, as none have been found in situ or individually.
Comparison: The new subspecies differs from the type material of the nominate subspecies (CORRADINI 1973) mainly in its longer processes and better separated membrane.
Specimens: >140.
Holotype statistics: Length of the central capsule (without operculum): 51, width of the central capsule: 57, overall length (without operculum): 75, overall width: 104.
Statistics: Length of central capsule (without operculum): 51(55)62, width central capsule: 57(64)75, overall length (without operculum): 74(82)90, overall width: 101(104)105.
Measured specimens: 16.
Known range: Upper Upper Maastrichtian.
