Glaphyrocysta espiritosantensis
From Fensome et al., 2019:
Glaphyrocysta espiritosantensis (Regali et al., 1974, p.290, pl.24, fig.3) Arai in Fauconnier and Masure, 2004, p.246. Holotype: Regali et al., 1974, pl.24, fig.3; irretrievably damaged according to Arai in Fauconnier and Masure (2004, p.246). Lectotype: Fauconnier and Masure, 2004, pl.31, figs.1–3, designated by Arai in Fauconnier and Masure (2004, p.246). Originally Hystrichosphaeridium, subsequently Areoligera, thirdly (and now) Glaphyrocysta. Age:
Maastrichtian.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original description: [Regali et al., 1974] (translated from Portugese):
Hystrichosphaeridium espiritosantensis sp. n.
Est. XXIV, no. 3.
Derivation: Species name derived from the state of Espírito Santo, Brazil.
Diagnosis: Spherical central capsule, smooth or with small punctures. Short processes characteristically anastomosed in the medial part.
Holotype: Type slide no. 38 – Est. XXIV, no. 3.
Diameter: 100µ, including processes.
Type site: Well 1-SES-3 (Sergipe Submarine)
1950-1980 m.
Description: Spherical central capsule, 80 to 90 µ in diameter, smooth or with small punctures.
Processes numerous and short, or with small punctures. Numerous, short processes, 10 to 12 µ long, anastomose in their midsection, forming a smooth, thin membrane. Size ranges from 80 to 100 µ, including the processes.
Comparison: Differs from H. salvadorensis sp. n. and H. paraensis sp. n. by the anastomosis of the processes in their midsection.
Distribution: Tricornites elongatus Zone.
Age: Maestrichtian.
Occurrence: Continental shelf of Maranhão, Alagoas, and Sergipe, and the Sergipe/Alagoas, Almada, and Espírito Santo basins.
