Original description (Zevenboom, 1995):
Impagidinium desniverrucosum Zevenboom and Santarelli sp.nov. (manuscript name) (Plate V, 1, 3, 6).
Manuscript holotype: Sample Box 6, Sg. A 46/1, Plate V, 1-3
Etymology: In reference to the surface ornamentation, consisting of the dense cover of large verrucae
Type locality: Boxmeer, The Netherlands
Type stratum: Breda Formation

Diagnosis: A species of Impagidinium characterized by a dense cover of verrucae.

Dimensions: Height 75 (77) 79 µm; Width 75 (76) 77 µm; Height of septa 10 (12) 14 µm; Height of surface ornamentation 5-8 µm. N = 10

Description: A subspherical species of Impagidinium. The archeopyle margin is serrate and the operculum is free. The periphragmal ornamentation consists of a dense cover of verrucae, which are sometimes fused together. The parasutural septa are slightly perforate and suturocavate at the proximally. All the larger paraplates clearly reflect a gonyaulacoid S-type pattern. In the parasulcal area the maximum reflected paratabulation is rs and ras.

Discussion: Impagidinium densiverrucosum is morphologically comparable to I. verrucosum Brideaux and McIntre, 1975, but differs by having more closely spaced and larger verrucae. It furthermore differs by also having verrucae on the paracingular paraplates.
Occurrences: The Netherlands (this study) and Italy (Zevenboom et al., in prep.)
Total stratigraphic range: Middle Miocene (this study), see Fig. 5
