Islandinium cezare
From Fensome et al., 2019:
Islandinium cezare (de Vernal et al., 1989, p.2463, pl.2, figs.5,10 ex de Vernal in Rochon et al., 1999, p.53) Head et al., 2001, p.631. Emendation: Head et al., 2001, p.631, as Islandinium cezare. Holotype: de Vernal et al., 1989, pl.2, fig. 10, designated by Rochon et al., 1999, p.53; Radi et al., 2013, pl.1, figs.5–6; Potvin et al., 2018, fig. 8F. Originally Algidasphaeridium? minutum var. cezare, subsequently (and now) Islandinium? cezare. Questionable assignment: Head et al. (2001, p.631). Age: Late Pleistocene.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original description (de Vernal et al. 1989) Translation PKB 2025:
Description: The cysts attributed to A. minutum var. cezare have a morphology similar to the species initially described by Harland and Reid (Harland et al., 1980), except for the termination of the processes. Indeed, A. minutum var. cezare is spherical to subspherical, consisting of two coherent brownish membranes and adorned with numerous processes, generally flexible and whose length represents about one fifth of the cyst diameter. None of the specimens observed allows the paratabulation and the archaeopyle to be distinguished. The dimensions are consistent with those of A. minutum: the total diameter is 34 µm and that of the cyst 25 µm on average (N=8); the process length varies from 4.0 to 5.5 µm. The processes are conical to subconical and hollow at the base. However, their termination is not acuminate as is the case for A. minutum, but has a distal end, capitate to buccinate, otherwise bifurcated distally.
