Omatia butticula

Omatia butticula Wiggins, 1969

Now Boreocysta. Originally Omatia, subsequently (and now) Boreocysta.
Holotype: Wiggins, 1969, pl.2, figs.1-2
Paratypes: Wiggins, 1969, pl.2. fig.3; pl.2. fig.4
Locus typicus: Herendeen Bay, Alaska, U.S.A.
Stratum typicum: Late Valanginian or Early Hauterivian

Original Diagnosis: Wiggins, 1969, p.150
The cyst is fusiform in outline, with a slight necklike constriction at the apical pole. The wall surface is smooth except for a varied number of processes in the median region and a concentrated number of the processes at the apical and antapical poles. These appendages are connected, at least in part, to a bottle-shaped outer membrane. The distance from the shell to the outer membrane may possibly be determined by the appendage length, and this dimension is rather uniform throughout.
Size: Holotype: overall length 118 µm, overall width 48 µm, shell length excluding operculum 60 µm. Range of 30 specimens: [shell] length 60-80 µm, [shell] width 28-36 µm. Wiggins noted that the overall length and width are too variable for consistent measurement since "... the outer membrane is commonly deflated".
