Operculodinium baculatum Yu Jingxian and Zhang Wangping, 1980

Holotype: Yu Jingxian and Zhang Wangping, 1980, pl.6 [non pl.4 as stated in the text], fig.9
Age: Turonian-Early Maastrichtian

Original Description Yu Jingxian and Zhang Wangping, 1980 [translation Suning Hou 2025]:

Operculodinium baculatum sp. nov.
Holotype: Slide number W3-19b, Plate VI, Figure 9.
Description: The cyst measures 41.4-45.6 µm in length, with the holotype being 41.4 µm, and 36.8-43.7 µm in width, with the holotype width being 36.8 µm.
The cyst is elliptical, with a wall thickness of approximately 1-1.5 µm. Its surface is covered with short, rod-shaped processes that are solid, slightly swollen at the tip, and closed, measuring about 2-3 µm in length. The distribution of rods is uneven, and the surface appears granular between rods. The intercalary archeopyle is polygonal. No cingulum or tabulation was observed.
Comparison: The cyst shape and ornamentation resemble O. placitum Drugg & Loeblich, but the new species is larger and features a polygonal intercalary archeopyle, distinguishing it from the latter.
Stratigraphy: Upper part of the Uytak-Kukbay Formation and Yegizya Formation. 乌依塔克一库克拜组上部和依格孜牙组
