Holotype: Chen, 2013, pl.1, fig.7.
Age: Berriasian.

Original description (Chen, 2013):
Palaecysta virgae sp. nov.
virgae, Latin, sprouts, depicting the spinous processes of the pre- and post-cingular process clusters.
Holotype. Plate 1, Figure 7, Slide 1316-19, J14.
Paratypes. Plate 1, Figure 9, Slide 1238-41, O40; Plate 1, Figure 13, Slide 1250-53, X6; Plate 1, Figure 14, Slide 1304-07, S40.
Other specimens. Plate 1, Figures 8-12; Plate 13, Figure 156.

Diagnosis: The relatively short spinous processes, which arise from the low arcuate basal ridge (Figure 9, drawing 16; Figure 10, drawing 41; Figure 11, drawings 58, 59) are the main characteristic of this species.

Dimensions (based on measurements from 50 specimens):
Holotype – Whole specimen 95 µm; central body 70 µm; process length 18 µm
Range – Whole specimen 80 (90) 98 µm; central body 60 (65) 70 µm; process length 18 (22) 25 µm

Occurrences in the Ankamotra-1 well. P. virgae is a long-ranging species, but occurred more abundantly in Zone 4 (basal Berriasian).
