Palaecysta virgae subsp. externa

Palaecysta virgae subsp. externa Chen, 2013, p.294–295, pl.10, figs.110–120; text-fig.8, text-fig.9, no.12, text-fig.10, no.37, text-fig.11, nos.60–61.

Holotype: Chen, 2013, pl.10, fig.119.
Age: late Tithonian–Berriasian.

Original description (Chen, 2013):
Palaecysta virgae subsp. externa subsp. nov.
externa, Latin, outward, depicting the outward bending of the spinous processes and their basal ridge of the process clusters.
Holotype. Plate 10, Figure 119, Slide 1316-25/1, C58.
Paratypes. Plate 10, Figure 113, Slide 1304-07, H18; Plate 10, Figure 117, Slide 1316-25/1, P39; Plate 10, Figure 118, Slide 1286-95, Q66.
Other specimens. Plate 10, Figures 110-112, 114-116, 120.

Diagnosis: This subspecies is characterized by outward bending of the spinous processes and the basal ridge of the process clusters (Figure 8; Figure 9, drawing 12; Figure 10, drawing 37; Figure 11, drawings 60, 61).

Dimensions (based on measurements from 50 specimens):
Holotype – Whole specimen 120 µm; central body 78 µm; process length 28 µm
Range – Whole specimen 115 (120) 128 µm; central body 70 (75) 82 µm; process length 25 (28) 35 µm

Remarks: The outward bending the spinous processes and their basal ridge of the process clusters separates this subspecies from all other morphologically similar species such as P. virgae and P. virge subsp. lanceolata. 294 Y.-Y. Chen
Occurrences in the Ankamotra-1 well. This subspecies occurred in low abundance in Zones 3 and 4 (Berriasian).
