Senoniasphaera whitenessensis
Senoniasphaera whitenessensis Prince et al., 2008, p.91, pl.1, figs.11–12.
As the epithet was avowedly named after a place and not a person, the spelling is corrected here from whitenessii to whitenessensis.
Holotype: Prince et al., 2008, pl.1, figs. 11–12.
Age: late Santonian.
Original description (Prince et al., 2008):
Senoniasphaera whitenessii Prince, Jarvis, Pearce et Tocher, sp. nov. ( Plate I, 11–12)
Stratigraphic horizon: Lower Upper Santonian O. pilula Zone, White Ness only.
Etymology: White Ness, with reference to the section from where the species was first recorded.
Diagnosis: A globular Senoniasphaera with three wall layers, showing slight indications of both lateral and antapical horns on all wall layers. Rounded to rectangular cavities are located between the endo- and mesophragm.
Description: The inner body is rounded showing slight indications of lateral horns and may show one or two well-developed antapical horns. The inner body is connected to the middle body by a number of pillars. The cavation between pillars may be either rectangular or rounded in shape. The middle body also shows indications of lateral horns but only slight indications of the antapical horns and is not connected to the outer body.
Dimensions: Range of 4 measured specimens: inner body (w/l): 54–70 µm (average 61 µm), outer body 44–64 µm (average 56 µm).
