Spiniferites balcanicus (Balteş, 1971, p.6, pl.3, figs.3–7) Sütő-Szentai, 2000, p.162.
NOW Thalassiphora. Originally (and now) Thalassiphora, subsequently Disphaeria, thirdly Subathua (combination not validly published), fourthly Spiniferites.
Taxonomic senior synonym: Pterospermopsis (as and now Thalassiphora) pelagica, according to Stover and Evitt (1978, p.194) — however, Sütő-Szentai (2000, p.162) retained Thalassiphora (as Spiniferites) balcanica.
This combination was not validly published in Sütő-Szentai (1988, p.356; 1991, p.188) and Sütő (1994, captions to pls.5–6 — p.470) since these authors did not fully reference the basionym.
Holotype: Balteş, 1971, pl.3, figs.3–7.
Age: early Pliocene.
