Wetzeliella symmetrica ssp. taiwaniana
Wetzeliella ?subsp. taiwaniana (Shaw Chenglong, 1999a, p.41–42, figs.22–30) Williams et al., 2015, p.318.
Originally Wetzeliella symmetrica var. taiwaniana, subsequently (and now) Wetzeliella symmetrica? subsp. taiwaniana.
Questionable assignment: Williams et al. (2015, p.318).
Holotype: Shaw Chenglong, 1999a, figs.22–24.
Age: Eocene.
Original description (Shaw Chenglong, 1999)
Description: Cyst intermediate to large, compressed peridinioid, with four prominent horns (one apical, two lateral and one antapical). The wall of cyst thin and well-covered with appendages; processes numerous, tubiform, with bifid or entire tips, fairly long (up to 15 µm), relatively small and closely clustered on distal part of horns (2-5µm), surface view smooth; endocyst smooth, thin-walled and broadly eliptical in outline. Intercalary archeopyle, operculum sometimes attached along anterior margin, generally free.
Stratigraphic occurence. Eocene (OK-1 well, 1788m)
Dimension holotype: 120 µm long, 95 µm wide, endocyst 80 µm long, 75 µm wide, processes 2-15 µm long. Dimensions: Overall 103-120 µm long, 95-103 µm wide, enodcyst 80 µm long, tubiformed processes, the tubiformed processes up to 15 µm long (n=4 µm).
Derivation of name: The specific epithet taiwaniana is derived from the name of the type locality.
Remarks: The new variety resembles Wetzeliella symmetrica Weiler in having a roughly similar outline; however, it differs in having smaller size and in having shorter tubiform appendages.
