Protoellipsodinium verrucosum Yu Jingxian, 1982, p.248, pl.8, figs.6,11. Holotype: Yu Jingxian, 1982, pl.8, fig.11. Age: Late Jurassic–Early Cretaceous.

Description: Cysts subcircular or elliptical in outline. Periphragm and endophragm. Endophragm thicker than periphragm. Surface has verrucate and spinous ornamentation as well as secondary wrinkles. Precingular archeopyle. Operculum triangular, still in place.
Size: Cysts 60 - 80 µm long and 24 - 50 µm wide.
Comparison: The new species differs from other species in the genus by having verrucate and spinous ornamentation and a triangular operculum.
