Pyxidiella pandora
From Fensome et al., 2019:
Pyxidiella pandora Cookson and Eisenack, 1958, p.52, pl.6, figs.10–11. Holotype: Cookson and Eisenack, 1958, pl.6, fig.10. Age: Late Jurassic.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Locus typicus: Carnavron Basin, W Australia
Stratum typicum: Late Jurassic
Original description: Cookson and Eisenack, 1958, p. 52
Shell cylindrical, with broadly rounded ends and a squarish pylome just behind one of them. Wall thin and firm, densely covered with small granules.
Dimensions: Type - 48 x 32 µm. Range - 48-57 x 24-43 µm.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Emended description Vitacca et al., 2022:
Emended diagnosis: A small, elongate, ellipsoidal Pyxidiella, densely ornamented with fine, low relief, non-tabular elements. Archeopyle Type I (2a), hexagonal in outline.
Emended description: A small, elongate, ellipsoidal, proximate dinoflagellate cyst with broadly rounded apices lacking horns or protuberances. Commonly shallow pre- and postcingular constrictions give rise to a pronounced cingular bulge. Ornament represented by a dense cover of small (<2 μm tall), non-tabular elements, ranging from granules to small spines with variable terminations. Archeopyle Type I (2a), hexagonal and commonly wider antapically (Fig. 12); opercular pieces free. Tabulation expressed by archeopyle, more rarely by aligned ornamental elements.
Remarks: This emendation identifies the greater diversity in cyst outline and ornament.
