Pyxidinopsis ardonensis
Pyxidinopsis ardonensis Jan du Chene, 1988
Holotype: Jan du Chene, 1988, pl.14, figs.1-3
Age: Danian
Translation Jan du Chene 1988: LPP
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jan du Chene 1988, p. 164, pl. 14, fig.1-9 Pyxidinopsis ardonense sp. nov.
Description: Small subspherical to ellipsoidal cyst. Cyst wall seems to consist of an endophragm and a periphragm, the latter singularly forming a dense network of more or less regularly interconnected muri. Paratabulation only expressed by the position of the precingular Type P (3"") archaeopyle. Parasulcus and paracingulum not expressed.
Dimensions: Holotype 36x30 µm, paratypes 40x40 and 32x34 µm, other specimens 32x43-30-40 µm; 9 specimens measured.
Comparison: In its ornamentation, this species resembles Pyxidinopsis challengerensis Habib 1976, which is, however, larger: 58x67 µm.
The ornamentation of Pyxidinopsis bakonyensis (Goczan 1962) Stover and Evitt 1978 is characterized by the presence of "slender meandering pillars, 2-3 µm high. Their intersections forming an irregular network. The meshes of the network are larger in basal than in the area of the opening" (Goczan 1962, p.200). The original illustrations (Goczan 1962, pl.3, fig.4-10) do not allow to specify this description or compare P. bakonyensis and P. ardonense.
Cerebrocysta bartonensis Bujak in Bujak et al. 1980 has irregular intratabular septa.
