Hystrichodinium qoimacoense
Hystrichodinium qoimacoense He Chengquan et al., 2005a, p.61–62,248–249, pl.20, figs.10–11; text-fig.1.3.
Holotype: He Chengquan et al., 2005a, pl.20, fig.10.
Age: Middle Jurassic.
Original description (He Chengquan et al., 2005a):
Hystrichodinium ? qoimacoense He et al., sp.nov. (Pl.20, figs. 10, 11, text-figs, 1-3)
Derivation of name : Qoimaco, a lake in Tanggulashan Township, Golmud City, Qinghai Province, the typical locality of the species.
Description: Cyst chorate, body ellipsoidal in outline, length greater than width, with more than 20 long processes. Processes solid, size vary little or 1-2 processes thicker, stem width average, some distal ends simple, but most bifurcate (most ends fastigiated). Few 2 or 3 thin processes fused together at base, which may imply it is a consequence of deep bi- or trifurcation of distal ends or problem of preservation. 1-2 processes fused together with membrane proximately or distally or whole stem respectively in pre- and postcingular area. Processes gonal, probably lack on the parasuturres. Parasutures low, developed incompletely. Outline of paraplates indistinct. Paratabulation of processes gonyaulacoid. Wall surface between processes microgranulate to near smooth and surface of process stems smooth. Archeopyle precingular, Type P, outline horseshoe-shaped; operculum free.
Dimensions (µm):
Range: body 35-38 long, 24-24.4 wide, processes 13.9-20 long;
Holotype: bosy 38 long, 24.4 wide, processes length reaches 20.
Comments: the process stems of the new species are partly attached by membrane, processes are gonal, more bifurcate distally and parasutures developed incompletely, so they are questionably identified as Hystrichodinium. The species is distinguished from Omatidium Courtinat by possession of bifurcate processes; the processes of the latter are simple distally; from Systematophora Klement and Luchndea Morgenroth by possession of precinuglar archeopyle; and differs from Spiniferites Mantell and Achomosphaera Evitt in that its process distal end are not trifurcate and in having few process groups.
Occurrence: Upper part of the Biqu Formation, Qoimaco section, Tanggulashan Township, Golmud, Qinghai.
