Romanodinium areolatum Baltes, 1971

Although Baltes, 1971, provided slide co-ordinates for the holotype, he did not identify which of his illustrations represented that specimen.

Original description: [Baltes, 1971, p.9]:

Description - Test is subspherical, without tabulation, hyaline, with rare, prominent, generally longitudinal folds. It has on the apical side a wide, pylom-like aperture, with no operculum. Antapical half is covered with a wide, transparent, non-homogeneous membrane, which in some specimens is perforate, with a scalloped appearance.

Dimensions - Test diameter 45 to 50 μ. Diameter of "pylom" 40 to 45 μ. Width of antapical membrane, about 30 to 35 μ.
Frequency - Moderate (about 80 specimens have been observed).
Age - Lower Pliocene (Pontian).

Size: Range: central body diameter 45-50 µm, diameter of archeopyle 40-45 µm, width of "antapical membrane" 30-35 µm.
