Romanodinium areolatum
Romanodinium areolatum Baltes, 1971
Although Baltes, 1971, provided slide co-ordinates for the holotype, he did not identify which of his illustrations represented that specimen.
Holotype: Baltes, 1971, p.9; pl.3
Locus typicus: Romania
Stratum typicum: Pontian, Early Pliocene
Original description: Baltes, 1971, p.9
Test is subspherical, without tabulation, hyaline, with rare, prominent, generally longitudinal folds. It has on the apical side a wide, pylom-like aperture, with no operculum. Antapical half is covered with a wide, transparent, non-homogeneous membrane, which in some specimens is perforate, with a scalloped appearance.
Size: Range: central body diameter 45-50 µm, diameter of archeopyle 40-45 µm, width of "antapical membrane" 30-35 µm.
