Lagenadinium

From Fensome et al., 2019:

"Lagenadinium", Piel, 1985, p.108.
Taxonomic senior synonym: Stephanelytron, according to Courtinat (1999, p.177).
Type: Piel, 1985, pl.1, figs.1–6, as Lagenadinium callovianum.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Original description: [Piel, 1985]:
Cyst subspherical to ovoidal. Holocavate, autophragm and ectophragm separated by hollow, nontabular processes of essentially equal length.
Paratabulation unclear. An apical horn may be present on both the autophragm and ectophragm, and one or two coronas are present at or near the antapex.
The archeopyle is apical.

Modified description:

Stover and Williams, 1987, p. 141:

Synopsis:
Cysts proximate to proximochorate, ovoidal; apical end narrowly rounded, antapical end broadly rounded and has one or two coronas near the antapex; holocavate, ectocoel with numerous nontabular hollow processes; archeopyle apical.

Description:
Shape: Cysts ovoidal, apical end narrowly rounded, may be elongate slightly to form an apical horn, antapical end broadly rounded.
Wall relationships: Holocavate.
Wall features: Ectocoel contains numerous, hollow, non-tabular processes of similar length; one or two coronas present near the antapex.
Archeopyle: Apical, operculum tends to remain attached.
Paratabulation: Generally indicated by archeopyle only; other indications faint and inconsistent.
Paracingulum: Usually not indicated.
Parasulcus: Usually not indicated.

Size: Small to intermediate, length about 35-60 µm.

Affinities:
Lagenadinium is similar to Chlamydophorella Cookson and Eisenack 1958 emended Duxbury 1983 and to Stephanelytron Sarjeant 1961 emended Stover et al. 1977 in that all three genera are holocavate and possess apical archeopyles. Lagenadinium differs from Chlamydophorella in having coronas which the latter genus lacks; it differs from Stephanelytron in having non-tabular rather than linearly-aligned processes.
