Substitute name for Diplopeltopsis Pavillard, 1913, p.7 (an illegitimate name).
Taxonomic senior synonym: Preperidinium Mangin, 1913 (an extant dinoflagellate genus), according to Elbrächter (1993, p.174).
Type species: Zygabikodinium lenticulatum, (Mangin, 1911) Loeblich Jr. and Loeblich III, 1970
Mudie, 1986, recorded cysts of this taxon from Upper Pliocene-Pleistocene sediments. However, she gave the species citation as Zygabikodinium lenticulatum Wall and Dale, 1968 emend. Bujak and Davies, 1983.
Zygabikodinium lenticulatum represents the encysted stage of Diplopeltopsis minor (Paulsen, 1907) Pavillard, 1913, according to Matsuoka, 1988.
