Sepispinula
From Fensome et al., 2019:
Sepispinula, Islam, 1993, p.88.
Taxonomic senior synonym: Chlamydophorella, by implication in Schiøler and Wilson (1998, p.328), who considered the type, Sepispinula ancorifera, to be a taxonomic junior synonym of Chlamydophorella ambigua -- however, Masure in Fauconnier and Masure (2004, p.499) retained Sepispinula.
Type: Cookson and Eisenack, 1960a, pl.2, fig.11, as Hystrichosphaeridium ancoriferum.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original description: [Islam, 1993]:
Diagnosis:
Spherical to subspherical dinoflagellate cysts with conical apices; proximochorate; biphragmal, psilate or ornamented (chagrinate, echinate, granulate, reticulate), periphragm giving rise to numerous nontabular tubular processes which are characteristically septate, basally closed, distally buccinate and often recurved, generally closed by a thin film; archeopyle apical type tA or (tA), adanate or free; other tabular features normally absent.
Affinities:
Sepispinula differs from all other dinoflagellate cysts in possessing hollow septate processes. Chlamydophorella Cookson and Eisenack 1958, emend. Duxbury, 1983 superficially resembles the new genus but differs in possessing largely solid processes and an ectophragm.
