tax. jr. syn. of Planinosphaeridium Eisenack, 1965, according to Wall et al., 1977. Edwards and Andrle, 1992, retained Ataxiodinium as a separate genus.

Description:
Cavate cysts with a subcircular inner capsule and an expanded outer membrane periphragm attached at isolated points by narrow funnel shaped hollows to the inner capsule. Archeopyle precingular, trapezoidal.

Affinities:
Ataxiodinium differs from Pentadinium in shape, lack of clearly marked fields and tabulation, and trapezoidal archeopyle.

Ataxiodinium Reid, 1974. From the diagnosis (Reid, 1974), is a cavate cyst with subcircular endocyst and expanded outer periphragm attached at isolated points by narrow funnel-shaped hollows to the inner capsule. Archeopyle precingular. Differs from Pentadinium in shape, lack of clearly marked fields and tabulation, and trapezoidal archeopyle.
