Original description [Wrenn, 1996]:

Diagnosis:
Pseudorhombodinium is characterized by circumvate, subrhombic to subpentagonal shaped cysts that have a hexa style paratabulation and a 2a intercalary archeopyle, Type Ia/Ia. The periarcheopyle is iso-deltaform (as defined by Bujak and Davier, 1983), the endoarcheopyle is eury-deltaform (as defined by Evitt, 1985) and each has adcingularly adnate operculum. The generic name refers to the overall resemblance of Pseudorhombodinium to specimens of the genus Rhombodinium, such as R. glabra (Cookson) Vozzehennikova 1967 and R. freienwaldense (Gocht) Costa & Downie 1979.
