Synopsis:
Cyst proximate to proximochorate, subspherical, and without an apical horn or protrusion; paratabulation gonyaulacacean, indicated by parasutural ridges or septa; the accessory ridges or septa present on most paraplates tend to obscure paratabulation; archaeopyle precingular, Type P.
Description:
Shape: Subspherical, without horns or protrusions.
Wall relationships: Autophragm only, or with appressed wall layers.
Wall features: Parasutural ridges or septa smooth and of uniform height; accessory ridges or septa commonly discontinuous, straight or curved, and usually slightly lower than parasutural features. Areas between ridges or septa smooth or finely granular.
Paratabulation: Indicated by parasutural ridges or septa and commonly obscured, particularly on the ventral surface, by accessory ridges or septa; gonyaulacacean, formula 3-4`, 6``, 6c, 5-6```, 0-1p, 1````, and with two or more parasulcal plates.
Archaeopyle: Precingular, Type P (3`` only); operculum free.
Paracingulum: Indicated by six subrectangular paraplates, of which some may be subdivided.
Parasulcus: Indicated by two or more small polygonal paraplates.
Size: Small to intermediate.
Affinities:
Corrudinium differs from Impagidinium in having accessory ridges or septa, which Impagidinium lacks, and from Cribroperidinium in being considerably smaller and in lacking an apical horn or protrusion.

Affinities:
Corrudinium differs from Impagidinium Stover and Evitt, 1978, in the presence of accessory septa.
Cerebrocysta Bujak in Bujak et al., 1980, is ornamented with a dense network of septa forming a pseudoreticulum which tends to mask the paratabulation. Corrudinium is much smaller than Cribroperidinium Neale and Sarjeant, 1962, emend. Helenes, 1984, from which it also differs in the absence of an apical horn and in certain details of paratabulation, in the antapical area, to be precise: paraplate 1```` of Cribroperidinium is strongly asymmetrical, whereas it is clearly symmetrical in Corrudinium. On the other hand, the accessory septa in Cribroperidinium are parallel to the parasutures, whereas they are irregularly distributed in Corrudinium.
