Chiropteridium mespilanum, (Maier, 1959), Lentin and Williams, 1973

Originally Galea (an illegitimate generic name, subsequently Baltisphaeridium, thirdly Chiropteridium, fourthly Hystrichosphaeridium.
Tax. jr. synonym of Galea (now Chiropteridium) galea Maier, 1959, according to Sarjeant, 1983.

Diagnosis:
A species of the genus Galea characterised by an equatorial archaeopyle, which is not indicated by specific appendages. On the apical side of the cyst a cluster of processes is present.

Description:
The shell membrane is granulate.
The archaeopyle is large and not indicated by specific appendages.
Processes, large at the base, are distributed irregularly on the cyst. The processes narrow distally and may end bifurcated or blunt. Often the processes are interconnected by ridges. Typical for this species is the apical cluster of processes.

Dimensions:
Diameter central body: 62 µm; height central body: 48 µm; length processes: 20 µm; archaeopyle: 52 µm.
