Originally Hystrichosphaeridium, subsequently Baltisphaeridium, thirdly Cleistosphaeridium, fourthly Chlamydophorella.
Tax. jr. synonym of Micrhystridium (now Dapsilidinium) ambiguum Deflandre, 1937, according to Yun, 1981, and Wheeler and Sarjeant, 1990.
Tax. sr. synonym of Hystrichosphaeridium ancoriferum Cookson and Eisenack, 1960, according to Clarke and Verdier, 1967, and Davey, 1978. Cookson and Eisenack, 1974, and Stover and Evitt, 1978, retained Hystrichosphaeridium ancoriferum as a separate species.
Lentin and Williams, 1981, retained this species in Cleistosphaeridium Davey et al., 1966.
